IIT Colleges List in India: The first Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) was established in 1951 in Kharagpur. As of 2025, there are a total of 23 IITs located throughout India. Governed by the Institutes of Technology Act, 1961, these institutions are managed by the IIT Council, which is chaired by the Education Minister of India.
