All State CM and Governor List: India is a federal country with 28 states and 8 union territories each having its own chief minister and governor. As per article 153 of Indian constitution there shall be a governor for each state. The governor is appointed by the president of India for a term of 5 years. Chief Minister is the head of state government and he is appointed by the governor of state under article 163 of Indian constitution. The chief minister and his council of ministers take oath before governor and are responsible to state assembly.
Governor is the executive head (nominal head of the state) and chief minister is the elected head of government of each state. In this article we have provided list of all state chief minister and governor list appointed before January 2024. Only three union territory has their own chief minister and the office of chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir union territory is vacant since bifurcation of Jammu & Kashmir into two new union territories Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh on 30 October 2019. Chief Minister of an Indian state is elected through a majority in the state legislative assembly by vote of confidence. Under article 163 of Indian constitution, the chief minister along with other ministers is appointed by the governor of that particular state. Chief Minister and his cabinet ministers take oath and affirmation before governor of the state.
Governor is the chief executive of a state and all executive decisions are taken on his name. Governor of a state is appointed by the president of India for a term of five years. Moreover same person can be appointed governor of two or more Indian states. As per article 154 of Indian constitution the executive power of state shall be vested in the governor and may be exercised by him in accordance with the constitution and the law. List of all State Deputy Chief Minister 2024
The post of deputy chief minister is not mentioned in the constitution of India. Deputy CM is often appointed by ruling parties to pacify factions within the party. It is similar to Deputy-Prime Minister post in central government. Deputy CM may chair cabinet meetings and can lead assembly majority in the absence of chief minister. Currently 13 out of 28 states and 1 out of 8 union territories have deputy CM's. Andhra Pradesh has five deputy chief minister while Uttar Pradesh has two deputy CM.

In India there are total 8 union territory and out of these only three union territories (Delhi, Puducherry and Jammu & Kashmir) have chief ministers and other 5 UTs does not have CM's. In addition to this it must be noted that only 3 union territory (Chandigarh, Lakshadweep, Dadra and Nagar Haveli & Daman and Diu) have administrator and rest five union territory have lieutenant governors.

Lieutenant Governor is the constitutional head of union territory. He is appointed by the president of India for a term of five years and hold office at president pleasure. Chandigarh ,Dadra and Nagar Haveli Daman and Diu, Lakshadweep union territories are governed by administrator. They are usually drawn from Indian administrative Services (IAS) or Indian Police Services (IPS).
