Most Corrupt State in India List: Corruption is the abuse of entrusted power by a person or an organization in position of authority for one's personal gain. Corruption is a criminal offense and it can be of any type like public servants demanding money in exchange for services, political misusing public money or granting public jobs or contracts to their sponsors, friends and families. India’s overall ranking in Corruption Perception Index is 93 out of 180 countries.

Rajasthan and Bihar are the most corrupt states in India. As per Transparency International and India Corruption Survey 2019 by Local Circles, 70-80 percent citizens of Rajasthan and Bihar state paid a bribe. The least corrupt state in India is Kerala with 10 percent of citizens that paid a bribe and other less corrupt state in India are Odisha, West Bengal, Goa, Delhi, Haryana and Gujarat. Corruption Perception Index (CPI) by Transparency International uses a scale from 0 to 100 for measuring corruption. Here a score of 100 is very clean and 0 is highly corrupt. Denmark is least corrupt country in world with a CPI score of 90 and India rank at 93 in corruption perception index out of 180 countries with CPI score of 39/100. The most corrupt country in world are Somalia, Syria, South Sudan and Venezuela with CPI score of less than 15/100.

Transparency International India in collaboration with Local Circles conducted India Corruption Survey across 20 states of the country. As per India Corruption Survey 2019 reports by Local Circles, In Rajasthan about 78% people had to pay bribe mostly in property registration and land issues. In Bihar 75% of citizens admitted to paying a bribe to get their work done in property registration and land issues, municipal corporation, police, transport office and tax office.

What are the types of corruption

1. Political corruption: Political corruption is the abuse of public power, office, or resources by political leaders for personal gain, by extortion, soliciting or offering bribes. hiring or promoting a family member or staff member to a role they are not qualified regardless of merit.
2. Petty corruption: This type of occurs at a smaller scale and takes place at the implementation end of public services when public officials meet the public.
