Why is the Mock Drill Important for West Bengal?
West Bengal has been marked as a priority state due to its strategic international borders with Bangladesh, Nepal, and Bhutan. The recent violence in Kashmir has added urgency to improving civil defence measures. In a high-level meeting with the Union Home Secretary, the state administration confirmed its readiness with the availability of:
- 62 satellite phones
- 95 sirens in Kolkata
- 25–30 sirens in other districts
These drills aim to evaluate and strengthen the response capabilities of local authorities, volunteers, and civilians in case of a potential attack or emergency.
