The Global Hunger Index (GHI) 2025 has been released by Concern Worldwide and Welt Hunger Hilfe, two non-governmental organizations based in Ireland and Germany. This report evaluates the hunger levels in 125 countries, ranking them based on four key indicators: undernourishment, child stunting, child wasting, and child mortality. As per the Global Hunger Index 2025 report, 9 countries face alarming levels of hunger, while 35 are considered to have serious hunger issues.

According to the Global Hunger Index 2025, India is positioned at 111th with a GHI score of 28.7. This marks a decline from last year when it held the 107th spot out of 121 countries. In earlier years, India was ranked 101st in 2011 out of 116 countries and 94th in 2020. India’s ranking is notably worse than its neighbors: Pakistan at 102, Sri Lanka at 60, Bangladesh at 81, Nepal at 69, and Myanmar at 71. The only country with a lower ranking than India is Afghanistan, which is at 114th. Additionally, India has the highest child wasting rate at 19.3%, a significant concern that needs to be addressed urgently.
