List of Freedom Fighters of India: The British East India Company ruled India for nearly a century from 1757 until 1857. The Indian struggle for independence gained momentum in 1857 during the Indian Rebellion, also known as the First War of Independence or Sepoy Mutiny, led by figures like Mangal Pandey. Notable leaders such as Rani Laxmi Bai of Jhansi, Bahadur Shah Zafar, Nana Saheb, Tatya Tope, Kunwar Singh, Man Singh, Bakht Khan, Begum Hazrat Mahal, and many others joined forces to fight against British colonialism.
India remained under British rule from 1857 to 1947. During these years, numerous freedom fighters devoted their lives to the struggle for independence. In the early 1900s, Bal Gangadhar Tilak pioneered a campaign promoting Indian goods while boycotting British products.
Mahatma Gandhi initiated a strike against the Rowlett Act in 1919, and Lala Lajpat Rai protested the Simon Commission in 1928. Bhagat Singh famously bombed the Central Legislative Assembly in Delhi, participating in various revolutionary acts against British rule. Gandhi launched the Non-Cooperation Movement in 1920 and the Quit India Movement in 1942. All the efforts of these freedom fighters culminated in India gaining independence on 15 August 1947. Below is a detailed list of Freedom Fighters of India.
