Indian Govt Banned Apps List: The central government of India has taken strict action by banning several mobile messenger apps that were reportedly used by terrorist groups. These apps facilitated communication among overground workers of terrorist organizations in Jammu and Kashmir, aiding in the spread of anti-India messages and in receiving notifications from Pakistan. Under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act 2000, 14 apps, including Mediafire, BChat, IMO, Enigma, and Nandbox, have been blocked by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
Over recent years, more than 250 Chinese apps have been banned in India. Popular apps such as TikTok, Wechat, Helo, Likee, Shareit, and UC Browser have faced bans due to concerns regarding user data security and privacy, where sensitive information was reportedly sent to servers located in China. Additionally, mobile games like PUBG Mobile and Garena Free Fire have also been prohibited.
Indian Govt Banned Apps List 2025 - List of 14 Apps banned In India
The central government has prohibited these 14 applications under Section 69A of the IT Act 2000, as they were found to be associated with spreading anti-India propaganda in Jammu and Kashmir. The Indian Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has also banned other apps, including 138 gambling (betting) apps and 94 unauthorized loan apps. Previously, 54 Chinese apps were banned in 2022 such as Beauty Camera, Sweet Selfie, Equalizer & Bass, and others. The recent list of banned apps is as follows:

Indian Govt Banned Apps List 2025 - 138 Betting Apps and 94 Loan Apps
Following recommendations from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Indian government has also banned over 138 betting apps and 94 loan apps with Chinese connections. These applications have been outlawed under Section 69 of the IT Act 2000 for containing content harmful to India's sovereignty and integrity.

The Indian government has banned 94 unauthorized loan apps that misled people with attractive loan offers, only to raise interest rates up to 3000% annually. When individuals could not repay the exorbitant interest rates, they faced harassment from app operators, leading to tragic outcomes in states like Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
