Objectives of PM Janaushadhi Yojana

  • Ensure access to quality medicines for all, particularly for underprivileged groups.
  • Raise awareness about generic medicines through education and advertisements to counter the notion that quality is associated with a high price tag.
  • Provide employment opportunities by allowing entrepreneurs to open PMBJP Kendras.

Salient Features of Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Yojana

The PM Jan Aushadhi Scheme is managed by both government organizations and private enterprises:

  • The incentive for Kendra owners has been increased from Rs. 2.50 lakh to up to Rs. 5.00 lakh, which is calculated at 15% of monthly purchases made, with a ceiling of Rs. 15,000 per month.
  • A one-time incentive of Rs. 2.00 lakh is provided for furniture, fixtures, computers, and printers for PMBJP Kendras established in North-Eastern States, Himalayan locations, Islands, or aspirational districts identified by NITI Aayog, or opened by women, Divyang, SC, and ST individuals.
  • Prices for Jan Aushadhi medicines range from 50% to 90% less than the prices of branded medications sold in the market.
  • Medicines are sourced exclusively from WHO-GMP-certified suppliers to ensure product quality.
  • Each batch of medication undergoes testing at laboratories accredited by the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) to guarantee the highest quality.

In the financial year 2020-21, the PMBJP initiative saved citizens around Rs. 4,000 crores.
