UGC Fake University List 2025 PDF

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has published an updated list of 20 fake universities in India as of 2 October 2023. Many of these institutions, primarily from Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal, are unauthorized to confer any degrees, instead engaging in the wrong practice of issuing fake degrees. According to the UGC Act of 1956, under Section 22, only universities established by Central, State, or Provincial Acts, or those deemed to be universities under Section 3, can confer degrees. Section 23 of the UGC Act prohibits illegal use of the term "university" by any unauthorized institutions. Below is the state-wise list of fake universities identified by UGC.

The UGC has identified 20 fake universities, effective from 2 October 2023. Students are strongly advised to remain cautious about these institutions, as they are not recognized by the UGC and cannot provide legitimate degrees.
