HSN Code List: HSN stands for Harmonized System for Nomenclature. HSN was established and industrialized by the World Customs Organization (WCO) in 1988. GST HSN code states more than 5000 goods and is primarily practiced by more than 150 countries. This 6 digit HSN Code can be utilized to classify more than 5 thousand commodities and is further applied for tax objectives classification. The customs and central excise attached two more digits later to advance HSN Code search for more reliable differentiation.
As per Goods and Services Tax (GST) notification issued by Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) Government of India, taxpayers must incorporate the GST HSN code in their tax invoice for designated products. Earlier, it was mandatory to have only in the GST invoice for taxpayers with a turnover of more than 5 crores. But now, the HSN code for GST is compulsory for all tax invoices.
GST HSN Code List
HSN Codes are mainly used for dealers and trades. They must adopt 2 digits, 4 digits and 8 digits HSN codes depending upon the following criteria.
- If the business turnover is less than Rs. 1.5 crores then there is no need of adopting the HSN codes.
- If the business turnover is between Rs. 1.5 crores to Rs. 5 crores then, they must adopt 2 digit HSN codes for the business trades.
- If the business turnover is above Rs.5 crores then, they must adopt 4 digit HSN codes for the business.
- In the case of import and export dealing and international trades one must adopt 8 digit HSN codes for the business trades.

The process to search GST HSN code is given below.
Step 1 : Visit Goods and Services Tax official website https://www.gst.gov.in.
Step 2 : At home page, go to services category and click "Search HSN Code".
Step 3 : Direct Link https://services.gst.gov.in/services/searchhsnsac.
Step 4: Enter HSN Chapter by Name or Code and Click on "Search" button then HSN Code will open.
