All India medical colleges list for the 2026-27 session is out. National Medical Commission (NMC) has released the revised MBBS seat matrix, and the total intake has gone up to 1,40,214 seats across 836 medical colleges. That is 13,186 seats more than the 1,27,028 seats renewed from the previous year.
NEET UG 2026 result was declared on July 16, 2026. Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) is running the All India Quota rounds at mcc.nic.in, and the Round 2 seat matrix came out on September 3, 2026. State authorities are handling the remaining 85% state quota seats on their own portals.
All India Medical Colleges List 2026 with MBBS Seats
NMC seat matrix covers government and private medical colleges across all states and union territories. It does not include Institutes of National Importance (INIs) such as AIIMS and JIPMER, whose seats are notified separately.
As per the matrix updated on September 1, 2026, there are 445 government medical colleges with 63,971 MBBS seats and 391 private medical colleges with 76,243 MBBS seats. Government seats went up by 2,786, while private seats rose by 10,400 this year.
Karnataka leads the country with 15,745 MBBS seats across 76 colleges. Uttar Pradesh follows with 14,400 seats in 92 colleges, Tamil Nadu has 14,299 seats in 78 colleges, and Maharashtra has 13,249 seats in 87 colleges.

AIIMS Medical Colleges List with MBBS Seats 2026
There are 24 AIIMS campuses in India, out of which 20 are operational and the rest are under construction. AIIMS seats are not part of the NMC matrix because these are Institutes of National Importance. Total MBBS intake across AIIMS is around 2,257 seats, and AIIMS Delhi alone offers 132 seats (125 plus 7 sponsored).

How to Check All India Medical Colleges List 2026
NMC uploads the MBBS seat matrix as a PDF on its official website. Follow the steps below to check the college wise and state wise seat details.
STEP 1 - Open the official NMC website at nmc.org.in on your phone or computer.
STEP 2 - Go to the Notice Board or Public Notice section on the homepage and look for the MBBS seat matrix notice for the 2026-27 session.
STEP 3 - Click the seat matrix link and download the PDF file. The file lists every medical college with its renewed seats, increased seats and total approved intake.
STEP 4 - Search for your state or college name inside the PDF using the search option, and note down the approved seat count before you fill your counselling choices.
STEP 5 - For All India Quota seats, log in to mcc.nic.in, open the UG Medical Counselling section and check the round wise seat matrix and allotment result there.
NEET UG Counselling 2026
MCC conducts counselling for 15% All India Quota seats, deemed universities, central universities, AIIMS, JIPMER and ESIC colleges. Round 2 choice filling and locking ran from September 3 to September 9, 2026, and the round is closing on September 19, 2026. MCC also added 30 new MBBS seats to the Round 2 seat matrix.
The remaining 85% state quota seats are filled by state counselling authorities through their own portals. Dates and rules differ from state to state, so candidates should follow their state portal closely. Students who want to look at other options can check the list of medical courses without NEET as well.
NMC has also warned colleges against admitting students beyond the approved intake. Any admission above the sanctioned seats will be treated as non-compliance with the National Medical Commission Act, 2019 and may invite action. The seat matrix can still be revised if appeal committees or other authorities issue fresh decisions, and any such change will be uploaded on the NMC website.
