PMAY cities list 2026 is available on the official PMAY-Urban portal. A total of 7,550 cities across 28 states and 7 union territories have been selected under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) so far.
The scheme was launched on 25 June 2015 to give pucca homes to poor families in urban areas. As of September 2026, more than 127.68 lakh houses have been sanctioned, 121.03 lakh grounded for construction and 99.07 lakh completed under PMAY-U and PMAY-U 2.0 together.
PMAY Cities List 2026
Tamil Nadu leads the city count with 1,073 cities selected for affordable housing. Andhra Pradesh follows with 905 cities and Uttar Pradesh with 896. Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Chandigarh sit at the bottom of the selection list with just one city each.
PMAY-U 2.0 started on 1 September 2024. It will help 1 crore more families build, buy or rent a house in urban areas over five years, with government assistance of ₹2.30 lakh crore. The total investment under this phase is around ₹10 lakh crore.

PMAY-U 2.0 Main Features
PMAY-U 2.0 is the second phase of the urban housing scheme. It keeps the same goal of a pucca house for every eligible urban family, but adds rental housing and a wider income limit. Some of the main points are given below.
- Central assistance is given to 1 crore eligible families to construct, purchase or rent a house in urban areas.
- Four verticals are covered, which are Beneficiary Led Construction (BLC), Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP), In-Situ Slum Redevelopment (ISSR) and Affordable Rental Housing (ARH).
- Income groups covered are EWS families with yearly income up to ₹3 lakh, LIG families with ₹3 lakh to ₹6 lakh, and MIG families with ₹6 lakh to ₹9 lakh.
- Affordable Rental Housing gives rental homes to urban migrants, working women, and workers of industries and institutions near their workplace.

How to Check PMAY City List and Beneficiary Status
Eligible people can check whether their city is covered and whether their name is in the beneficiary list by following the steps given below. The process is free and done on the official PMAY-Urban website.
STEP 1 - Open the official website at pmay-urban.gov.in in any browser on your phone or computer.
STEP 2 - On the homepage, look for the progress section. Click on the City Wise Progress link to open the latest city-wise PDF report.
STEP 3 - In the PDF, find your state and then your city or UDA name. The report shows houses sanctioned, grounded and completed for each city.
STEP 4 - To check your own beneficiary status, go to the PMAY-U 2.0 apply and status section and enter your application or registration number.
STEP 5 - Download or save the page for your records. If your name is missing or the details are wrong, contact your local urban local body office with the required documents.
