A single-judge panel of the Calcutta High Court recently mandated a CBI inquiry into the 2014 primary teacher recruitment process conducted by the West Bengal Board of Primary Education (WBBPE). This inquiry comes as a significant setback for the state's education administration.
The WBBPE issued a revised merit list in 2017 for the recruitment examination conducted in 2014, in which these 269 candidates were reportedly awarded one additional mark each. Authorities from WBBPE stated that the addition was due to an error in the question paper, but this explanation did not convince the court.
WBBPE President Manik Bhattacharya and Secretary Ratna Chakraborty were ordered by Justice Gangopadhyay to present themselves at the CBI headquarters in Kolkata with all relevant documents and to answer the investigation team's questions.
