E Shram NCO code list 2026 is the occupation list that unorganised workers pick from while registering on the e-Shram portal. Over 31.78 crore unorganised workers had already registered on the portal as of 14 July 2026, and fresh registration along with profile update stays open through the year.

Signing up on e-Shram is free. There is no last date, and a worker can register online or take help from a nearby Common Service Centre (CSC). While filling the form, the portal asks for your occupation, and that is where the National Classification of Occupation (NCO) code comes in.

E Shram NCO Code List 2026

NCO stands for National Classification of Occupation. It is prepared on the basis of the work and the skill level needed to do it. The same pattern is followed across the country, so occupations can be compared, sorted and classified easily. Ministry of Labour and Employment uses this list to keep the National Database of Unorganised Workers (NDUW) in order.

When you register on the e-Shram portal, you choose your main work from this list. Your primary occupation is the activity that brings in the largest part of your income. Any other work that adds a smaller but regular income is your secondary occupation. Picking the right code matters, because the portal uses it to match workers with social security schemes later.

How to Find Your NCO Code on e-Shram Portal

The portal does not expect you to remember a code. You only have to describe your work, and the matching NCO options show up on the screen. The steps are simple.

STEP 1 - Open the official e-Shram portal at eshram.gov.in and click on the 'Register on eShram' button on the home page. If you have already registered, log in with your UAN or Aadhaar linked mobile number instead.

STEP 2 - Move to the occupation section of the form, where you first select the sector or field that matches your work, such as agriculture, apparel, construction or transport.

STEP 3 - Type your job role in the search box. For example, if you drive an auto, type "auto" and the portal will show the matching occupation family along with its NCO code. Pick the option that matches your daily work.

STEP 4 - Mark the selected work as your primary occupation and save the form. If you do any extra work for additional income, you can add it as your secondary occupation in the same section.

STEP 5 - Already registered workers should log in and update their occupation, because the Ministry has advised e-Shram registrants to keep their profile and occupation updated for continued benefits.

How to Check and Save the E Shram NCO Code List

Full NCO list opens on the screen while you fill the occupation details on the registration form. You can search any job role there and note down the code shown next to it. Ministry of Labour and Employment also explains what NCO is and how it is used in the official FAQ page, so you can confirm the details from there.

Registration page - New workers can register and browse the occupation list at e-Shram registration portal.

Occupation update page - Registered workers can update their occupation and check codes at Update Your Occupation on e-Shram.

NCO details in FAQ - The meaning and use of NCO code is explained at e-Shram official FAQ page.

Documents and Details Needed for Registration

You do not need a long list of papers. Aadhaar number and an Aadhaar linked mobile number are enough for self registration. Workers who do not have an Aadhaar linked mobile number can visit the nearest Common Service Centre (CSC) or State Seva Kendra (SSK) and register through biometric authentication. No document has to be submitted at the CSC, and no proof of date of birth or income is asked at the time of registration. A worker aged 16 years or above can register, and there is no income limit, although an income tax payee cannot sign up as an unorganised worker.

Once registered, the UAN card carries your name, occupation, address, educational qualification and skill details. The card never expires and there is no renewal charge. If your mobile number, address, bank details or occupation changes later, you can update all of it from the portal or through a CSC.

Workers who want to know more about the linked pension scheme can check the PM Shram Yogi Mandhan Yojana details, and those looking for rural work details can see the MGNREGA job card list. State level labour card information is also available in the UP labour card list guide.
