Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) released its candidates list for Tamil Nadu Assembly election 2026 on March 28, 2026. The party announced 164 candidates for the 234-seat assembly, with Chief Minister M.K. Stalin contesting from Kolathur and Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin from Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni. The remaining seats went to alliance partners under the Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA).
Voting for all 234 seats took place in a single phase on April 23, 2026, and counting happened on May 4, 2026. The DMK-led alliance could not repeat its 2021 performance. DMK won 59 seats, down from 133 in 2021, while Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) emerged as the single largest party with 108 seats. DMK Candidates List 2026 for Tamil Nadu Assembly Election
DMK president M.K. Stalin announced the first list of 164 candidates on March 28, 2026. The list includes 125 graduates, 7 PhD holders, 18 women candidates, 15 doctors, 17 engineers and 29 candidates with a law background. More than 60 candidates are new faces. The party kept its Rising Sun symbol for these seats, while smaller allies like MDMK also contested on the same symbol.
DMK alliance seat sharing for 2026 was finalised as DMK 164, Congress 28, DMDK 10, VCK 8, CPI 5, CPI(M) 5, MDMK 4, IUML 2, KMDK 2, MNMK 2, Mukkulathor Pulipadai 1, MJK 1, SDPI 1 and Tamilar Desham Katchi 1, making a total of 234 seats.

DMK candidates list 2026 can be checked from the official Tamil Nadu Chief Electoral Officer website. The election department has published the list of contesting candidates for every assembly constituency on its portal.
STEP 1 - Open the official Tamil Nadu election department website at elections.tn.gov.in and go to the General Elections to Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly 2026 section.
STEP 2 - Click on the List of contesting candidates (Form 7A) link or the Know your AC / Candidate Details link to open the candidate list page.
STEP 3 - Select your district and assembly constituency to see the full list of candidates, including the DMK candidate, with party names and symbols.
For the final result of every constituency, the Election Commission of India results page at results.eci.gov.in shows the winning candidate, runner-up and margin for all 234 seats.
DMK Performance in Tamil Nadu Assembly Election 2026
DMK won 59 seats in the 2026 assembly election, a sharp drop from 133 seats in 2021. Several senior leaders and sitting ministers lost their seats. Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) won 108 seats and became the single largest party, while AIADMK finished with 47 seats. The DMK-led alliance could not form the government this time.
